Celebrating the achievements of alumni in the USA

When outstanding individuals receive a world-class education in the UK, the effects can last a lifetime. The Alumni Awards 2023/24 shine a light on the impact that alumni of UK higher education institutions are making in their chosen field, and how this was sparked by their studies in the UK.

The British Council has launched the tenth global edition of this prestigious award that celebrates the outstanding achievements of UK international alumni around the world, and it marks the second year of hosting an in-person ceremony in the USA as a part of the Awards celebration for US finalists.

Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, industries and countries. The Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education and raise the international profile of UK alumni and their former universities.

The awards are open to alumni currently residing in any country outside the UK, who have within the last 15 years (i.e. 2008 - 2023), enrolled at an officially recognised body or received a recognised award from a UK higher education institution.

Have you studied in the UK and gone on to achieve exceptional success? If so, apply for one of the Awards. Applications are open until 29 October 2023!

If you're applying in the USA, through one application, you have two opportunities to be selected. You can be chosen as a finalist for the national awards taking place in February 2024, and your application will also be forwarded for a chance to a be finalist/winner for the global awards, where you'll be competing with other alumni from around the world.

For applicants in other countries where ceremonies are not hosted, finalists and winners will be celebrated at the global awards in 2024 and celebrated in a digital campaign that will raise the profile of their story and successes.

Selection process

  • In-country Awards (USA): After the application period, we will run a specific selection process with a local judge panel to select finalists and four national winners. There will be a celebration to announce the winners.
  • Global: All eligible finalists are entered into the global Alumni Awards. The selection process and celebration follow its own flow: global judging panel, campaign to share stories, digital awards celebration event. Therefore, nationally the competition for the award is among the local candidates only – a smaller group; the eligible applicants and national winners also have a second chance to be nominated through the global prize – a bigger group.

Study UK Alumni Awards judges

The judging panel for the Study UK Alumni Awards brings together a wealth of international expertise in education, entrepreneurship, and national policy.
