On May 22, 2026, the British Council and the British Consulate General in Los Angeles co-hosted the12th edition of the Study UK Alumni Awards at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles.
Held as part of Greater Together LA Week, the event celebrated the global impact of alumni from UK universities, showcasing how international graduates are leading innovation, driving social change, and shaping industries worldwide.
Following a highly competitive selection process, four U.S. national winners were recognised across key categories - highlighting the strength of a UK education in developing global leaders and changemakers.
Business and Innovation Award
Yuk Chi Chan
Durham University & University College London
Yuk Chi is advancing the future of deep technology and space exploration by building critical financial infrastructure. As co-founder of CharterSpace, his career spans leadership in the Singapore Army and contributions to global policy discussions, including testimony at the United Nations on space sustainability.
His work connects complex technological innovation with the financial systems needed to support the next generation of space pioneers.
Culture, Creativity and Sports Award
Crystal Clarke
Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Actress and writer Crystal Clarke is redefining storytelling in global media. Known for her roles in Star Wars and for portraying Jane Austen’s first Black heroine on screen in Sanditon, she continues to challenge traditional narratives.
Beyond her acting work, Crystal is a strong advocate for neurodiversity and mental health, using her platform to promote representation and inclusive dialogue.
Science and Sustainability Award
Dr. Bashir Mohammed
University of Bradford & University of Sheffield
Dr. Mohammed is a leading systems architect and Senior Lead at Amazon Web Services (AWS). He has developed AI-driven solutions that optimise energy use across more than 140 global research networks, accelerating sustainable scientific discovery.
He also works at the intersection of technology and policy, translating complex data into actionable insights for U.S. decision-makers, while championing inclusive access to STEM education.

Megan Otto
University of Exeter & University of Birmingham
Megan Otto is a passionate leader in civic engagement and social impact. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led a Disaster Response Team that distributed 20 million pounds of food to nearly one million individuals.
Now working at Baker Tilly, Megan manages grant programmes that strengthen connections between institutions and local communities. She is also a committed advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion and long-term social change.
