In summer 2014, the first Premier Skills program in the US launched in Chicago.
The British Council develops partnerships with key stakeholders such as professional/local soccer clubs, organizations already active in sport for good and youth development, law enforcement and civic agencies.
Premier Skills Chicago is run with the support, expertise and program experience of local partners Beyond the Ball, Boys & Girls Club Chicago ̶ Little Village, Chicago Fire Soccer Club and Chicago Fire Foundation, Chicago Park District, and World Sport Chicago; and in association with Major League Soccer.
The program consists of a year-round after school program that brings skills, play and social and emotional learning to youth participants in the Chicago neighborhood of Little Village. Practice is held three nights a week, for participants ages 8 - 18, coached by Premier Skills community coaches and Chicago Fire community coaches.
In addition, through Premier Skills Community Coach training, 40 youth workers and local coaches from across Chicago have been trained in how to use soccer for community development and coaching for inclusion.
