What we can do:

Teach English with technology

Our world-leading English language resources are available digitally. We can design and customize a digital English program for your organization's needs.

We've developed English language apps and online products that are downloaded by millions of people worldwide.

In Uruguay, we've partnered with Plan Ceibal to teach English to children in public elementary schools, via remote videoconference link.

Through this partnership, we:

  • Teach remote English classes to 120,000 children in more than 1,000 schools
  • Support teachers with English language online courses, as well as face-to-face training
  • Unlock children's potential - children given an achievement test on what they have learnt gain average scores of 72%.
  • Aim to run 4,800 remote classes per week by March 2015

We believe that technology doesn't have to be complicated to have an impact. Our Learn English Audio Pilot (LEAP) provides English language resources via solar-powered MP3 players and micro DC cards to learners in remote parts of Ethiopia. Partnering with the Ethiopian government, the LEAP program will reach more than 3,000 teachers and 50,000 students in 300 schools and teacher training colleges.

Improve access to libraries

In partnership with the Government of Bangladesh, we have implemented 'Libraries Unlimited', a nationwide project focused on developing the library sector in Bangladesh.

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this project aims to greatly improve the lives of the citizens of Bangladesh through the creation of new innovative models of libraries. These libraries will provide free access to information, resources and the internet with a particular focus on reaching women, young people ‘not in education, regular employment or training’ (NEETs) and micro-entrepreneurs.

In August 2016, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to implement a five-year timeline for the project, including a pilot phase of $1.8 million USD. The project will be implemented in full partnership with the department of public libraries, focusing three core areas of action: policy and advocacy, an establishment of model libraries and professional development of libraries.

Build life skills in the MENA region

Taqaddam, meaning 'Moving Forward' in Arabic, is an innovative blended-learning program that develops enduring life skills in 15 to 16-year-olds across several countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Our partnership with HSBC combines online learning with practical face-to-face workshops for teachers and young participants, with an exciting inter-school event at the end of the program. Taqaddam aims to increase the chances and outlook for participants, helping them to reach their full potential by developing the personal and social skills they need to make a positive contribution to their communities and society.
